Lil Wayne has been catching hell for the last few months for his remarks on race relations in America. Here he explains his unique view on racism.

Earlier this year Wayne was a guest on FS1’s Undisputed where he told hosts Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe that he has never dealt with racism. He then followed up that statement with his now infamous spaz on ABC’s Nightline where he questioned the existence and relevancy of #BlackLivesMatter. Both interviews have had Weezy looking funny in the light as of late. But, in a clip that has been making the rounds online, Weezy talks about why he doesn’t have the same view on racism as most.

He recounted the time that he accidentally shot himself when he was 12 years old. He says that when police arrived at the scene, they jumped over him looking for drugs and guns that they assumed were in the house. Wayne says that the officers who ignored his bleeding body were as Black as him and the officer who stopped to help him was a White man. He says that this incident has shaped how he looks at race is the reason why he doesn’t know what racism is.

It appears that it could be some footage from the Nightline interview that hit the cutting room floor, or possibly from an interview he did that same day. Wayne is wearing the same outfit and it appears that he is sitting in the same room.

Does this make Wayne’s point of view valid in your eyes? Check out the interview below.
