Kanye West Proves the Importance of Embracing Individuality, Only the Individual Can Produce New Ideas

Blessings Kanye's verse on Blessings , reminds us that when Kanye comes back, he comes back strong.  I have not been excited about a verse in a while.  For me, rap has been in drought, despite/except for Wayne's most recent mixtape, Sorry 4 The Wait 2, which Wayne fans have been very happy with.  Every line in Kanye's verse was on point.  He takes pride in the music that he makes and he is one of the few greats that remains active! Everything Matters After a bit of a break to make babies with Kim K., Kanye Season is on the horizon.   Only One , a tribute to daughter, North West, was sung through the perspective of Kanye's late mother, Dr. Donda West.  Ye's first single shows that he is on another level in preparation for his next album.  Marriage, his first child...Kanye's next album will be the first he has released as a true family man.  There will not be a 'Workout Plan' or any other tracks where Ye shows his comical personality.  Inst...

Lil' Wayne Sorry For the Wait 2 Worth the Wait

Image
Dreams and Nightmares Wayne did not seem to try too hard on this track as I think he understands that there is no outdoing Meek on this one!  The best way to combat this is making it look like you were not attempting to out perform Meek on the track.  We all love Wayne's laid back tracks where it is clear that he is in the clouds, yet Dreams and Nightmares simply should not have been tampered with.  Meek killed it, and it remains his song. Used To Worst Behavior Pt. 2? Drake comes in and spits some hot lines setting the stage for Wayne's verse, which also did not disappoint.  The two remain nearly flawless when it comes to creating successful collaborations.  'Used To' is yet another great duo from Wayne and Drake. Coco Similar to 'No Type' I may consider this track a success because I enjoy the beat of the song/some of the lines from the OG versions.  That is still the name of the game when it comes to Wayne's mixtapes.  His catchier phrase...

Will Jay-Z Sign Lil' Wayne? 5 Determining Factors

Image
ONE Trouble in Paradise As Lil' Wayne remains unsatisfied with Birdman and Cash Money, we can conclude that Wayne will be able to successfully get out of his deal in due time.  The Birdman has made so much money off of Wayne that I do not think he will force him to stay on the label.  Pride will play a major factor in it all, although they love each other, neither could handle conceding to the other. TWO Roc Nation As Jay-Z continues to build Roc Nation, I am sure he will pursue Wayne.  There have been rumors in the past, but this seems to be the time.  Jay's frontline includes J. Cole, Beyonce and Rihanna.  Adding Wayne to the mix will make Roc Nation one of the most powerful companies in music today. THREE The Ability to Relate Mr. Carter can relate to Mr. Carter.  Both Wayne and Jay ran  hip-hop in their prime therefore Jay will ensure that Wayne's creativity will be able to flow freely on Roc Nation.  Jay can promise Wayne that the...

Hip-Hop Empire: Fox's New Series and the Bad Boy Days of Hip-Hop

Image
Empire Empire is the name of Fox's new hip-hop drama series about a music empire.  The show stars Terrance Howard and Taraji P. Henson.  Empire is Fox's highest-rated show in years. In the show, Terrence Howard plays Lucious Lyon, a former drug dealer turned hip-hop mogul and the CEO of Empire Entertainment.  Taraji P. Henson plays Cookie Lyon, Lucious' ex-wife and mother of his 3 sons.  Cookie served a 17 year bid in prison for drug dealing. Empire For Real Art imitates life and there are some former/current hip-hop stars that may have been the inspiration for a few of Empire's characters. Diddy When you think hip-hop mogul it is difficult to ignore Diddy.  In the first scene of the series, Lucious is in the music studio with an aspiring female artist.  To motivate her, he states, "I need you to sing like you are going to die tomorrow."  A scene that was definitely reminiscent of Diddy coaching Keyshia Cole in the following clip: Ther...

Bobby Shmurda: Crack Rap

Image
Crack rap What was it about Bobby Shmurda that made us believe everything he said? Was it his delivery? That BK that he repped so well? Or was it the fact that every line he spit seemed to jump at you as if he had just finished snorting a line.   That same vengeance that DMX once blessed the world with was seen in everything that Shmurda dropped.   Some say that his flow was more Down South than it was NY yet he came with the same hype that Craig Mack and Busta once brought to the game.   That fire behind every word that will have you bouncing off your living room walls.   That bang that made you want to fight anyone that glanced at you on the metro.   That crack rap that often made us question the habits of the person delivering it. Biggie’s 4 th Commandment Shmurda often brags about the fact that he has been slanging drugs since 5 th grade.   When it is all said and done, Shmurda did not listen to Big.   Big’s 4 th Commandment is never ge...
